Established in the 1800s with the City of Ocala, the Office of the City Clerk continues to offer a wide range of services to citizens, elected officials and city staff. These services include maintaining official records, preparing City Council's official minutes, attesting the council president's signature and ensuring compliance with Florida's Public Record and Sunshine Laws. As qualifying officer of municipal elections, the city clerk works closely with candidates for mayor and City Council.
From original hand-written documents that are more than a century old to a modern electronic imaging system, the city clerk has adapted to changing technology to ensure that records are properly maintained and accessible.
