Annual Events
Parade of Senior Services
Each February, the Water & Sewer Department offers educational and informative conservation handouts to the general public through the City of Ocala's booth at the day-long Parade of Senior Services. This event is held in the Paddock Mall from 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. By participating in this event, the department meets one of it's Consumptive Use Permit public information requirements for the St. Johns River Water Management District.
Career Days
The department also participates in career days at the elementary, high school and community college level. For these events, we talk with students about career opportunities and distribute information on educational requirements necessary for jobs in the water and wastewater fields.
WAV Program
The Watershed Action Volunteer (WAV) program was initiated in 1994 by the St. Johns River Water Management District (the District) in northeast Florida as an effort to involve the public in various aspects of water resource management. The program now includes 13 of the 18 counties in the District. These county WAV programs are supported by cost-share agreements with local governments and other partners. County WAV coordinators, with guidance and support from the District and its partners, implement the programs locally. The city of Ocala Water and Sewer Department is joining the District as a cost-share partner in order to procure assistance from the District's Marion County WAV program toward meeting consumptive use permit (CUP) requirements this year, and in the future.
