Bruce H. Phillips, PE, PLS
Assistant City Manager
Bruce Phillips is the Assistant City Manager for Public Services and the City Engineer.
His duties include overseeing the Engineering, Public Works, and Facilities and Fleet Maintenance departments.
Mr. Phillips, a native Floridian, started his professional career in Ocala in 1970 with Marion Engineering. In 1975, he went to work for Springstead Engineering in Leesburg and became a Professional Land Surveyor in 1984. In 1994, he started Southern Tradition Construction. In1996, he came to the City of Ocala, obtained his Professional Engineer’s license in 1998, and was promoted to City Engineer in 2000.
The projects in which he takes the most pride include construction of the Police Station, two fire stations (and the remodeling of a third), the Customer Service Office, airport T-hangars and the Lake Weir Avenue and Fort King Street road projects.
His maternal great-grandfather built the “1890 House” on Silver Springs Boulevard and his paternal great-grandfather was the first Ocala fire chief.
He and his wife Connie have two married daughters and 4 grandchildren.
